Downtown Seattle Post COVID Recovery Plan

CEP 498: "Special Topics" is one of the most unique classes I took at the University of Washington. The class is separated into a couple different groups to work with real world clients on urban planning issues. The enrollment for this class was low when I took it so there were only six people in the class and only three in my project group. This allowed for a more personal connection with the client, but also entailed more individual responsibility. The project that my group was tasked to work on was the Downtown Seattle Post COVID-19 Recovery Plan. The client for this was Lyle Bicknell with the City of Seattle. This was the first quarter that this project was available in the class; therefore, we were tasked with completing the preliminary work for the project. The areas we were focusing on were: The Pine Pike Corridor, and Pioneer Square. Our scope was to fully inventory and survey these areas which included: Asset Mapping, evaluation of infrastructure conditions, evaluation of the areas' condition in general, and provide some preliminary recommendations for solutions to the issue. This was my first time working with a real world client and that experience has and will continue to be incredibly valuable to me.

Within my group, my main tasks for this project were: to asset map my portions of the area using digital tools (such as Google Maps), creating the visual representations of the Asset Mapping, surveying the conditions of the area in person, as well as assisting on the recommendations and presentation design.
